Unhappy Professionally? Here's Some Career Changing Advice.Since you arguably spend more time at work than at home, being unhappy in your profession is no fun. Misery may love company but that doesn't mean you should stay put. Of course, changing careers is a big decision because it can impact you and your family. But if you do it for the right reasons and go into a field with a lot of professional opportunities, you will be doing yourself a favor.

Here’s some career changing advice to keep in mind:

Discuss it with your family.

What you do doesn’t affect just your life, so discussing your intentions with your family, especially your spouse or significant other, is essential. Plus, talking to someone else outside of work about your grievances and frustrations on the job could help you decide if you're unhappy because of where you are and who you work for or if you're truly dissatisified because the career you're in is not fulfilling enough.

Research the field(s) you’re interested in.

The more you know the better off you’ll be. Take the time to learn about the industries you’re interested in pursuing before you move forward with your plans. It will help you narrow down your options.

Meet with a career coach.

If you’re unsure what your next steps should be or even if you’re making the right decision to leave, consider consulting a career coach. They can provide you with some good career advice, help you set professional goals and determine if you’re making this decision for the right reasons.

Identify your transferable skills.

Just because you’re changing careers doesn’t mean that all the hard work you’ve done or the knowledge that you’ve acquired has gone to waste. There are plenty of transferable skills that you’ve developed that can be useful in other industries. The key is to recognize what they are and see how you can apply them.

Network. Network. Network.

Meeting people who are already working in the field that you want to break into can be extremely beneficial. They could offer you some very useful tips on how to be successful. Even if you become acquainted with other workers who aren't in your desired field, they may know someone who is. You never know where it will lead until you try.
